MURILLO MARKET SQUARE.
Vertical Design Studio I
Murillo Market Square is an architectural renovation and revitalization project focused on transforming the existing public market in Murillo, Tolima, Colombia. The proposal seeks to reactivate the market as a vibrant commercial and social hub while preserving its traditional role within the local community. The design introduces a renewed architectural identity through pitched roof structures, vibrant façades, and an efficient spatial organization that improves circulation, accessibility, and commercial activity. The use of colorful architectural elements and traditional vertical timber boarding (*tabla parada*) responds to the immediate built context, reinforcing local architectural identity and fostering a stronger sense of cultural belonging. Redesigned market stalls, covered pedestrian areas, and communal spaces enhance the experience of vendors and visitors. By integrating contemporary interventions with traditional construction elements, the project strengthens local commerce, encourages social interaction, and revitalizes an essential public space while celebrating the region's cultural heritage.
